The Union's Early Years

Claude "Pops" Taylor as he was known, was the first Secretary/Treasurer for Local #406 in Grand Rapids, Mi.  Under "Pops" Taylors watch, the local grew rapidly from 90 to 1000 members by 1940. He ran the office and negotiated the contracts, until he grew ill in 1942.

In 1935 Jimmy Hoffa recuited Claude "Pops Taylor" as he was known by to be the first Secretary/Treasurer of Teamsters Local #406
